About

We started with a footnote.

Counter-Cite is a goods label for Indigenous researchers — the grad students defending dissertations nobody in their family has the vocabulary for yet, the faculty teaching methods courses that were supposed to be taught by someone else, the tribal research staff who have been doing rigorous community-based work for generations without anyone calling it "rigorous."

We make the things we wanted and couldn't find. A hoodie you can defend in. A tote that says what you've been thinking in every methods seminar. A tee that reads, plainly, Our Elders Are Our Peer Reviewers — and doesn't explain itself.

How we make things

Every piece is printed-on-demand through a partner that uses quality blanks (Bella+Canvas tees, heavyweight canvas totes, fleece that holds up). No warehouse, no fast-fashion inventory, no dead stock. Orders ship when they ship. The academy taught us plenty about unreasonable timelines, and we're not interested in recreating them here.

What you're buying when you buy from us

A shirt, obviously. But also: a nod to the next Native person at the conference who sees it from across the room. A small reason for a grad student to laugh on a bad writing day. A quiet citation to the scholars — Smith, Wilson, Kovach, Absolon, Archibald, Brayboy, Deloria, Tuck — who made the work we're doing possible.

Thanks for being here. Wopila
