Tituwan Scholar Tee
Tituwan — properly written Thítȟuŋwaŋ in the Lakota orthography — names one of the seven council fires of the Oceti Sakowin, the people more broadly known as Lakota. The simpler spelling is what you'll see most often in English; the fuller spelling carries the language as it's actually spoken and written by relatives, language keepers, and teachers. Both belong here.
This piece names the band, not just the broader nation, because specificity is the point. The academy has spent a long time studying the Lakota; the people studying back have always been more specific than the academy has bothered to be.
Worn by Kayla, the founder, who is Oglala Tituwan Oceti Sakowin. Open to anyone who carries this lineage and the work that comes with it.
